Story
Oujda is the eastern capital — the great city of Morocco's far north-east, close enough to Algeria that the border is a fact of daily life and the music carries the rai and chaâbi of the neighbour. The medina is old, founded in the 10th century, with walls and gates of a frontier town that has spent a millennium shifting hands. The pace is unhurried, the markets run on figs and dates and the best dates of the east, and the traveller count is the lowest of any Moroccan city of its size.
