Story
Oued Laou is a small fishing town on the Mediterranean where a river valley cuts down from the Rif mountains to a wide, sandy beach. The road in from Chefchaouen winds through terraced hills and Berber villages, and the town itself is little more than a harbour, a stretch of seafood grills, and a curve of grey-gold sand backed by the last of the hills. Until recently it was a locals' secret; now day-trippers find it from Tétouan and Chefchaouen in summer.
This is for the traveller who wants an uncomplicated Mediterranean swim and fresh catch, away from the built-up coast. It is small and seasonal — come on a weekday, or out of high summer, to feel its calm.
