Story
Midelt is the town between two Atlases — where the cedar Middle Atlas gives way to the rock and snow of the High Atlas, and the road to the desert begins its long descent toward Errachidia and the oases. At fifteen hundred metres, it is cold in winter and apple country in autumn, its orchards filling the trucks that supply the souks to the south. Jebel Ayachi, snow-capped much of the year, rises behind the town like a wall. Mining — lead, silver, fluorite — built this place, and the working scars remain.
This is for the road traveller breaking the Marrakech–Merzouga crossing, and the mountain lover. It is not a destination of palaces; its value is the pass, the apples, and the cold air.
