Story
Azrou is the crossroads of the Middle Atlas — a market town ringed by the largest cedar forest in Morocco, where the roads from Ifrane, the High Atlas, and the eastern plateaus all meet. The cedar Gouraud Forest rises just above town, and within it the Barbary macaques wait on the rocks, the last major population of its kind. The old medina trades in Berber craft, and the weekly souk draws villages down from the surrounding heights. The name means "the rock," after the great stone outcrop above the town.
This is for the traveller who wants mountain quiet, monkeys, and forest without the chalet polish of nearby Ifrane. It is not a polished resort — its gift is its plainness, a working cedar-country town.
