Story
Errachidia is the gateway to the Tafilalet — the great oasis region where the Ziz river breaks out of its gorge and palms the desert green. Once called Ksar es-Souk, it is a modern, orderly regional capital built by the French as an administrative anchor for the deep south-east, and it serves today as the practical base for the road to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi dunes. The Ziz palmery runs for kilometres along the river, a green corridor against the dust, and the date harvest fills its autumn markets.
This is for the traveller using it as a base for the desert, or the one who wants the Tafilalet without the dune-camp price. It is not a medina destination; its strength is its roads and its palms.
