Tinghir or Tinerhir, is an oasis about 30 kilometres (19 mi) long and about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) wide.
Story
Tinghir is the green town at the mouth of the Todra Gorge — an oasis of palmeries and old mud-brick villages where the river breaks out of a three-hundred-metre canyon and spreads into the desert. The gorge itself, fifteen minutes north, is the climax: a single road between towering rose-grey walls that the morning sun reaches like a slow tide. Tinghir was a French administrative post, and it remains the natural base for the Todra and the link between the Dadès Valley and the deep south-east.
This is for the road traveller on the Dadès-Todra loop, and the walker who wants a palmery at dawn. It is not a polished resort; its gift is its position, between the cliff and the date palm.
