Story
Boumalne-Dadès is the gateway to the Dadès Valley — the town where the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" begins its climb from the desert edge into red rock gorges, palm oases, and apricot orchards. From here the valley folds dramatically upward, and the road switchbacks above the village of Mesmi in the famous twists once built for mules. Earthen kasbahs line the river, and a night in one of them is the way to catch the dawn light that the day-trippers from Marrakech always miss. The Dadès meets the Todra a valley over, and the two together are the great gorge loop of the south-east.
This is for the road traveller and the walker on the Dadès-Todra circuit. It is not a single sight; its gift is the drive, the kasbah, and the dawn.
