A sense of place
Tétouan's modern-art centre makes the city's twentieth century visible inside a former railway station, where movement, colonial urban planning and artistic training intersect. The best visit begins outside: read the station architecture and its position between the medina and Ensanche, then enter the galleries to follow northern Morocco's painting traditions and their conversations with the city's National Institute of Fine Arts. This is not simply a rainy-day substitute for the UNESCO medina. It reveals how Tétouan continued to produce new visual languages after the Andalusian city was established.
