Story
Taroudant is called Little Marrakech, and it earns the name — the same ochre ramparts, the same souks, a fraction of the crowds. Encircled by seven kilometres of walls, it was the capital of the Saadi dynasty in the 16th century before they moved to Marrakech, and it still trades in gold, silver, and argan. Berber, Arab, and Saharan cultures meet here in the Souss valley, at the foot of the Anti-Atlas. The ramparts glow the same red as Marrakech's at sunset, with none of the touts.
This is for the traveller who wants the medina feel without the overwhelm, and the ideal base for exploring the Anti-Atlas. It is not for the nightlife-seeker; the town sleeps early, and that is its charm.
