Story
Erfoud is the last real town before the Erg Chebbi dunes — a fossil and date town at the edge of the Tafilalet oasis, where the desert begins in earnest and the shops sell ammonites older than the dinosaurs alongside the autumn date harvest. Built by the French as an administrative outpost, it is the practical supply base for the run to Merzouga, some forty minutes east. The surrounding palmerie runs for kilometres, green against the dust.
This is for the traveller bound for Erg Chebbi who needs fuel, a bed, or a fossil, and for the date-buyer in October. It is not a medina of charms; its gift is its position, on the threshold of the sand.
