Story
Berrechid is a town on the Casablanca–Settat highway, the gateway to the Chaouia plain, and long a centre of the cereal and grazing country south of the metropolis. Under the French it grew as an administrative post, and it gave its name to Morocco's best-known psychiatric hospital — a piece of local shorthand that still colours the town's reputation. Beyond that, it is a working market and industrial town, its factories and depots serving the highway and the surrounding farms.
This is for the traveller transiting the road to Marrakech, or with business in the Chaouia. It is practical and plain; come for the market and the break, with no expectations of a destination.
