Story
Ben Ahmed is a small town in the Chaouia plain east of Settat, a market and agricultural centre named for the saint whose shrine anchors its origin. The surrounding country is open cereal land and grazing — the breadbasket that feeds Casablanca and the coast — and the town's weekly souk is the gathering moment for the surrounding farms. The older quarters are modest and sun-bleached, the newer ones built to serve the highway trade.
This is for the traveller on the inland road between Settat and the Tadla, or with reason to be in the agricultural Chaouia. It is a quiet market town; come for the souk day and the open plain, with no expectations beyond the genuine.
