Story
Tangier is where Africa nearly touches Europe — fourteen kilometres of strait, and a city that has been every nation's. The medina looks across to Spain on a clear day; the cafés hold the ghosts of Bowles and Burroughs, who came for the licence and stayed for the light; and the new Tanger-Med port has made the city a boom town again after decades of faded glamour. Disreputable, cosmopolitan, and essential — it is the door Morocco has always kept ajar to the world.
This is for the traveller who wants the literary, layered, slightly-unkempt north. It is not a medina of polished monuments; its depth is in its air of harbours, spies, and unfinished stories.
