Story
Sidi Slimane is a market town in the Gharb plain, an agricultural centre surrounded by the citrus groves, sugar beet, and rice paddies that make this one of Morocco's most productive regions. It grew with the irrigation schemes of the mid-twentieth century and the colonial farms that preceded them, and its weekly souk remains a working market rather than a tourist one. The town itself is flat, modern, and unhurried — a place that earns its living from the rich soil around it.
This is for the traveller crossing the Gharb between Kenitra and the interior, or the one curious about working agricultural Morocco. It is plain and authentic; come for the citrus, the souk, and the green of the plain.
