Story
Rich is an old market and garrison town in the upper Ziz Valley — where the river breaks out of the Atlas gorges into the wider country that slopes toward Errachidia and the desert. A French-built fort still stands above the river, a relic of the colonial push into the south-east, and the weekly souk draws the Amazigh villages down from the surrounding heights. The palmerie runs green along the water.
This is for the traveller crossing the Atlas on the Errachidia road, or tracing the Ziz from its source to its dunes. It is not a destination in itself; its gift is the river, the fort, and the market day.
