Story
Oued Zem is a phosphate-mining town on the edge of the phosphate plateau — the black rock that, more than any monument, built modern Morocco. It is also a town that carries a hard memory: in 1955, at the close of the Protectorate, French forces killed dozens of its people, a wound the town still names. The work here is the mines and the mills, the streets are plain, and the dignity is in the labour and the remembering.
This is for the traveller who wants to understand the country beneath the postcards — the resource towns, the history, the working plain. It is not a beauty spot; its truth is its worth.
