Story
Missour is a town on the upper Oued Ziz, where the road from Fès meets the river valley descending toward Errachidia and the Sahara. It sits in a transition country — the last of the high plateau giving way to the palm oases — and has long been a garrison and market town for the surrounding tribes. The old casbah, partly in ruins, watches over the river, and the weekly souk draws farmers and herders from a wide radius of arid country.
This is for the traveller on the desert road south, the one breaking the long crossing between the Atlas and the dunes. It is dusty and functional; its value is the road, the river, and the casbah silhouette.
