Story
Ksar el-Kébir — the Great Kasbah — is an old inland town on the Loukkos river, founded in the early Islamic centuries and grown rich on the trade road between Fès and the Atlantic. It is best known for the Battle of the Three Kings, fought on its plain in 1578: the young Portuguese king Sebastião and two rival Moroccan sultans all died, ending Portugal's imperial ambitions in Morocco for good. The old walls and the medina remain, but this is a working market town, not a restored showpiece.
