Story
Khouribga is the capital of Morocco's phosphate country, sitting on the world's largest reserves of the rock that feeds the kingdom's fertiliser industry and a decisive share of its economy. The town was built by the French in the 1920s around the mines, and the Office Chérifien des Phosphates still structures its streets, its housing, and its working life. Beyond the industry, it serves the surrounding plateau of cereal farms and the constant rail traffic carrying ore to the port of Jorf Lasfar.
This is for the traveller on the road between Casablanca and Beni Mellal, or with business in the phosphate industry. It is a working industrial city; its interest is the industry that built it, and the plateau around.
