Story
Khénifra is the heart of the Middle Atlas plateau — a market town in Zayane Amazigh country, ringed by cedar and oak, where the high country flattens into pasture before it folds down toward the Tadla plain. It is the land of Moha ou Hammou Zayani, the resistance chief whose name still carries weight here, and a town that lives by livestock, wool, and the weekly souk. The Oum er-Rbia, Morocco's longest river, rises in springs not far away.
This is for the traveller crossing the Middle Atlas by road, or seeking Amazigh plateau country away from the cedar-tourist circuit. It is not a destination of monuments; its gift is the air, the altitude, and the belonging.
