Story
Kenitra — once Port Lyautey — is Morocco's only river port, sitting at the mouth of the Sebou where it meets the Atlantic. The French built it as a military harbour in 1912, and it has been a working, industrial, and university town ever since. It is not a destination for its own sights, and it does not pretend to be: its value is as a gateway. The Mamora cork-oak forest, one of the largest in the world, stretches to the south, and the Merja Zerga wetlands — the great blue lagoon — lie forty minutes north.
This is for the transit traveller and the naturalist, not the sightseer. Use it as a hub; the real prizes are the forest and the lagoon on either side of it.
