Beach in El Jebha, Morocco
Story
Jebha is a small Mediterranean fishing port halfway along the coast between Tétouan and Al Hoceima, where the Rif mountains drop steeply into the sea. Once a Spanish outpost called Puerto Capaz, it lives by the sardine boats and the weekly souk, and by the geological fault line that gives the coast its folded, dramatic cliffs. There is a beach, a harbour, and not much else — which is exactly the point. The new coastal road has made it reachable, but it has kept its rough edges.
This is for the road traveller breaking the slow drive along the Rif coast, and the angler more than the sunbather. It is a real working port, not a resort; come for the cliffs and the quiet.
