Story
Béni Mellal is the capital of the Atlas piedmont — where the Middle Atlas and High Atlas meet the Tadla plain, and the snowmelt of the mountains becomes the green of irrigated farmland below. It is a working regional capital, not a tourist stop: markets full, traffic real, the smell of oranges and olives in season. Above the city the road climbs toward Bin el-Ouidane's vast blue reservoir, hemmed by red cliffs, and the higher Atlas beyond.
This is for the traveller breaking the cross-country road between Fès and Marrakech, or heading up into the mountains. It is not a polished destination; its gift is its position, between the plain and the peak.
