Story
Alnif is the fossil town of the Tafilalet — a desert-edge market centre where the surrounding rock, laid down in Devonian seas hundreds of millions of years ago, yields up trilobites and orthoceras that fill the region's shops. The town itself is plain — a few streets, a souk, the dust of the edge — but the country around it is one of the planet's great palaeontological libraries.
This is for the traveller drawn to deep time, the desert, and the strange beauty of stone creatures, and for the back-road traveller between Rissani and the Draa. It is not a museum town; its gift is the ground itself, which yields what it has held in the dark.
