Historie
Assa er en oaseby i det fjerne sør på platået mellom Draa og Tan-Tan — et stille sted med dadelpalmer og gamle ksour, satt i et landskap så åpent og så lite besøkt at stillheten har en tyngde. Den lever av palmerasen, flokkene og handelen på bakveiene som knytter Draa til atlanterhavs-sør, og dens markedsdager samler de få familiene på den omliggende hamadaen.
Dette er for den overland-reisende på de sørlige bakrutene, og den for hvem avsidesliggende er lønnen. Det er ikke et stopp med fasiliteter i overflod; dens gave er det grønne i støvet og dybden av stillheten.

Assa’s annual zaouia moussem gathers religious observance, kinship visits and Saharan social exchange around the old oasis settlement and ksar. It is not a generic stage festival: its meaning comes from the zaouia, the Aït Oussa and other communities connected to Assa, and the meeting of settled and nomadic heritage. Dates, processions, market activity, access rules and photography conditions come only from the responsible edition authority.
