Verhaal
Assa is een oasestad in de verre zuid op het plateau tussen de Draa en Tan-Tan — een stille plaats van dadelpalmen en oude ksour, gelegen in een land zo open en zo weinig bezocht dat de stilte gewicht heeft. Ze leeft van de palmeraie, de kuddes en de handel van de achterwegen die de Draa met de zuidelijke Atlantische Oceaan verbinden, en haar marktdagen brengen de weinige families van de omliggende hamada bijeen.
Dit is voor de overland-reiziger op de achterroutes van het zuiden, en voor wie afzondering de beloning is. Het is geen plaats met voorzieningen; zijn geschenk is het groen in het stof en de diepte van de stilte.

Assa’s annual zaouia moussem gathers religious observance, kinship visits and Saharan social exchange around the old oasis settlement and ksar. It is not a generic stage festival: its meaning comes from the zaouia, the Aït Oussa and other communities connected to Assa, and the meeting of settled and nomadic heritage. Dates, processions, market activity, access rules and photography conditions come only from the responsible edition authority.
