Assa è una città-oasi del profondo sud sull'altopiano tra il Draa e Tan-Tan — un luogo silenzioso di palme da datteri e vecchi ksour, in un paese così aperto e così poco visitato che il silenzio ha un peso. Vive della palmeraie, delle greggi e del commercio delle strade secondarie che legano il Draa all'Atlantico del sud, e i suoi giorni di mercato radunano le poche famiglie dell'hamada circostante.
Questo è per il viaggiatore overland sulle rotte secondarie del sud, e per chi l'isolamento è la ricompensa. Non è una tappa con servizi; il suo dono è il verde nella polvere e la profondità del silenzio.
