Geschichte
Assa ist eine Oasenstadt im fernen Süden auf dem Plateau zwischen dem Draa und Tan-Tan — ein stiller Ort von Dattelpalmen und alten Ksour, gelegen in einem so offenen und so wenig bereisten Land, dass die Stille ein Gewicht hat. Es lebt von der Palmerie, den Herden und dem Handel der Hinterstraßen, die den Draa mit dem südlichen Atlantik verbinden, und seine Markttage versammeln die wenigen Familien der umliegenden Hamada.
Das ist für den Overland-Reisenden auf den Hinterrouten des Südens, und den, für den die Abgeschiedenheit der Lohn ist. Es ist keine Station mit Annehmlichkeiten; sein Geschenk ist das Grün im Staub und die Tiefe der Stille.

Assa’s annual zaouia moussem gathers religious observance, kinship visits and Saharan social exchange around the old oasis settlement and ksar. It is not a generic stage festival: its meaning comes from the zaouia, the Aït Oussa and other communities connected to Assa, and the meeting of settled and nomadic heritage. Dates, processions, market activity, access rules and photography conditions come only from the responsible edition authority.
